LANXESS lights up the streets of Mehtawas

  • Eight solar lights installed in the streets of Mehtawas
  • Solar lights would be operational even during times of power failure in the region

Nagda, April 25, 2011: LANXESS, a global specialty chemicals company having a manufacturing site in Nagda, is supporting the local community by installing eight lights on the streets of the Mehtawas village, which is a neighbour to Nagda. Notably, these lights would be driven by solar power, which is not only environmentally friendly but also reliable as sunlight is the source of power. Eight points have been identified by LANXESS for the installation of lights keeping in mind the security aspects of the area. Until now, the residents of the village did not have proper street lights and frequent power failures in the Nagda region make lights powered by electricity unreliable.  The solar lamps contributed by LANXESS are of 18 watt each.

The contribution was culminated on the World Earth Day through a ceremony organized at the Mehtawas Shaskiya Prathamik Vidyalaya, a school which LANXESS has supported in 2010. Officials from the local administrative bodies and journalists were present at the ceremony along with the LANXESS management at Nagda.

This initiative is truly an example of LANXESS’ conscious efforts towards sustainable development. LANXESS keenly looks out for opportunities to support the welfare of communities in a meaningful way particularly in the areas in the neighborhood of its operation.

On this occasion, Mr. Neelanjan Banerjee, Senior Executive Director, LANXESS India and Senior Vice President – Basic Chemicals said, “We hope that this initiative would make movements in the otherwise dark streets in the evenings easier and thus benefit the people of Mehtawas. From LANXESS, wish you a safe and a ‘green’ future.”

Dr. Bappa Bandyopadhyay, Head - Manufacturing Site, Nagda added,”We are always happy to help people in the community in our neighbouring areas and this initiative is one such example of our efforts that helps bring about development of the region.”
