Autism-a developmental disorder

Autism-a developmental disorder

Most of the people must have come across such children, who apparently look normal, but their activities are found different from normal children. If we find a boy, who likes to live all alone, does not talk to his family members, not even looks at them, repeats any physical activity frequently then we may doubt about his wellness. This may be autism, a severely incapacitating life long, developmental disorder that typically occurs in first three years of life. It causes impairment or disturbance in three main areas, social skills, communication skills and in their repetitive and restricted behaviors.

A child with autism might:
  • Have severe language deficits of differences.
  • Not look at objects when another person points at them.
  • Have trouble relating to others or not have an interest in other people at all.
  • Avoid eye contact and want to be alone.
  • Appear to be unaware when other people talk to them but respond to other sounds.
  • Repeat or echo words or phrases said to them.
  • Have trouble expressing their needs using typical words or motions.
  • Laugh, cry or show distress for no apparent reason.

A child affected by autism, needs utmost care, particularly by his parents. Unfortunately, no medicine or treatment has been devised so for perfect treatment of an austic. The only consistently effective treatment for autism is a structured training programme, therefore a combination of a good school and parents training is the best known treatment.
Autism affected children are found worldwide. According to USA survey, one out of 500 children in India is an autistic. Looking to the gravity, USA has declared 2nd April as, ‘World Autism Awareness day.
Being responsible, a social group has understood the grief of autistics & their parents and decided to help them in association with national & international organizations, working on this disorder. We appeal all to come with us to help the autism affected so that they can also live better life.
